In this talk, Kenji Imasaki, a computer engineer and the president of Seattle IT Japanese Professionals (SIJP), will talk about their purpose and challenges to bring English Computer Science Education to Japan. 

SIJP has been using Seesaw for our Computer Science (CS) class as it is easy to use and helps students engage in the class using a tablet or a computer. We believe that this is the class format we should be aiming for. We conducted our class in English, while livestreaming the very same class to kids in Japan. We believe that learning CS in Japanese has its limitations and is not the most optimal. We hope CS educators in Japan will come to share our view.

He will also talk about SIJP’s latest class, Sort & Search Algorithms, in Kumamoto in July 2018 (report).

The audience of this talk is educators in US and Japan who are interested in ICT-based STEM education. Also, parents who want their child to study CS.

ICTを使った日本での英語によるコンピュータサイエンス授業の取り組み（英語での発表）

この講義ではエンジニアでありNPOのSeattle IT Japanese Professionals (SIJP)の代表である今崎憲児が日本での英語によるコンピュータサイエンス授業をする目的と課題について話します。

SIJPは ICTプラットフォームSeesaw を使って コンピュータサイエンス (CS) を教えています。Seesaｗを使うとタブレットやラップトップを使って積極的に授業に参加できます.私達は このような教育手法がメインストリームとなっていると考えます。一方、プログラミング関連の一次情報は英語であることも多く、日本語に訳すことで分かりづらくなったり、学び続ける過程で必ず英語の学習が必要になります。そこで英語での授業、日本語によるサポートをおこなっています。また、シアトルや熊本の子どもたちとWebで繋がることで、「物理的な距離は克服できる」と体感してもらうことも目的としています。

講義の後半では７月に熊本で行われた授業についてもお話したいと思います(report).
