DescriptionFebruary is Black History Month; it is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

The theme for the Opening Celebration this year is: Blackness: Historical Image vs. Future Change-makers. The celebration will include music, spoken word, notable acknowledgements, and more!

DescriptionIn partnership with the Black Student Union affinity groups within the Bellevue College campus community will be hosting weekly educational and cultural events. This is in efforts to demonstrate intersectionality and the importance of unity as we continue to explore tactics in combating anti-blackness!

For the first week of Black History Month, Bellevue College Veterans Association will conduct a presentation on Black Veterans and the Civil Rights Movement.
