The 2nd-3rd Grade Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the head coach with practices during the season. This role supports the athletic and personal development of student-athletes by promoting teamwork, skill-building, and sportsmanship in a positive and inclusive environment. The 2nd-3rd Grade Basketball Assistant Coach collaborates closely with the head coach to align with school values and ensure a safe, engaging experience for all participants.

Reports To: Director of Athletics and After-School Programs
FLSA Status: Seasonal, Exempt
Pay: $250 stipend
Season: 10/27/25 – 12/8/25
Practices: Mon 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Games: No games

Specific Responsibilities:
• Supports the head coach with all basketball practices for second and third grade.
• Promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual skill development.
• Assists with teaching age-appropriate basketball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
• Partners with the head coach to support program goals and team culture.
• Ensures the safety, supervision, and well-being of all student-athletes.
• Supports player growth aligned with program expectations and core competencies.
• Communicates clearly with players, families, and the school community about schedules, expectations, and team progress
• Helps with equipment, as well as court set up and cleanup for practices.
• Actively engages in the life of the school and contributes to community-wide events and programs.
• Upholds and models the mission, values, and strategic priorities of STS.
• Demonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
• Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
• Adheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs.

Requirements and Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in education, coaching, or a related field preferred.
• 1+ years of experience coaching basketball, preferably with second and third grade–age students.
• Knowledge of youth athletic development, including age-appropriate skill building and sportsmanship.
• Demonstrated ability to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
• Ability to actively supervise student-athletes both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
• Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in activities such as bending, crouching, or sitting on the ground.
• Readiness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, and maintain throughout employment
• Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, flexible, and growth-oriented mindset.
• Proficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
• Commitment to the mission, values, and community of STS.
