Citizen’s Oath

by Zeke Hill

Citizen’s Oath
I will say this now and for all days henceforth,
That I pledge to be a citizen for all humanity, as true as they do come.
For although the days may be dark,
And the Government uncaring.
Despite the corporate lies,
And endless sea of products, falsely advertised.
I will not falter,
Nor will I ever cease to progress.
My eyes shall be discerning,
And ears attuned to truth.
My hands shall stretch to those in need,
And my tongue give voice to words of hope.
My heart shall be my compass,
In tangent with my mind.
To lead me down the right path,
And to never look behind.
I choose to stand for the down trodden,
To rise to any task.
I will vote in every election,
And shall do all that is within my grasp.
For if I can only be a single grain of sand for justice,
On the scale that is the world,
Then that is all I shall be.
Because though the days are dark,
I have pledged to be a citizen for all mankind.
One as true as true can be.
