MLK Week Welcome

Welcome to Bellevue College’s annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. We have a variety of events this week that focus on Dr. King’s legacy of justice.

This year our theme is Every Black Life Matters. Our goals for this celebration are to:

  • Center intersectionality and various aspects of inequality and struggle
  • Amplify Black voices and what Dr. King stood for
  • Remember not only what the movement was, but also that it is ongoing
  • Lift up the names of others who participate(d) in the movement that have gone largely unnoticed—in particular, many women and LGBTQ+ folx
  • Provide opportunity to engage with Dr. King’s work

Events will occur between January 18 – 22, 2021 and have been organized by Bellevue College students, staff, and faculty. Please click on Events in the menu above for more details on the week’s celebrations.

From January 15 – 29, 2021, there will be a student essay contest on any topic that celebrates the work and legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please click on Essay Contest in the menu above for more details and registration.
