Hi,
One of the hardest problems in getting a job in technology is the chicken and egg problem. A company typically wants a minimum of 1 – 2 years experience, but how do you get the experience. Northshore School District has the answer. We have Technology Assistant positions starting immediately on the server team and network team where you will get that experience. While the pay is not great $12 – $15/hr for 20hrs/week, but the experience you get working on servers, scripting, and network devices in a real world situation is great. We prefer students that have at least 2 years of school left, but are willing to work with students that have 1 year of school left as it will take you several months to learn our systems. We will work around your class schedule. The jobs are:
Network TA: Primary focus in the first year will be in inventorying, deploying, and documenting equipment (wireless access points, switches, and routers) out to one of our 40 sites and in troubleshooting and resolving physical network issues at those sites (e.g. wiring problems). In the second year you may move into working with the software on routers and switches. If you are into hands on work with equipment this is a good fit.
Server TA: Primary focus is help out the server team with account
management, creating/deleting/patching servers, application updating,
scripting, and resolving second level support requests. This is more of a software job that rarely touches physical hardware.
