Mission and Goals

Mission:

The Black Student Union is an organization that embodies the culture, history and educations of the African American experience. We strive to support the total advancement and excellence of Black Students and Black Student Groups within the Bellevue community, through social engagement, cultural and collective totality of each and every black experience.

Our Goals:

  • Sponsor and participate in outreach and recruitment events with the effort of increasing the number of black students attending school.
  • Sponsor and participate in welcome, information sessions and orientations for black students and ALL students of color.
  • Provide college resources and information to incoming students with the purpose of increasing student opportunities for success, and to provide and ensure a safe working environment for students of color.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and specific divisions and departments regarding employment.
  • Collaborate with Student Programs, clubs and other programs to develop and expand leadership opportunities for Black Students, Associate Student Government officers and other areas of the college.
  • Plan, promote and sponsor campus and neighborhood activities that support our mission.
  • Promote a positive image of Black People at Bellevue College and combat negative stereotypes by representing ourselves in an exceptional manner.
  • Enforce Nguzo Saba: “Seven Principles of the Black Value System”

  • Build solidarity between students of African descent and create a legacy at Bellevue College.
