Each quarter, the Bellevue College Guitar Program invites a composer to serve as our Composer in Residence<\/strong>, creating a new work specifically for the BC Guitar Ensemble<\/strong>. During their residency, the composer collaborates closely with students, guiding them through the creative process, working with the ensemble in rehearsals, and joining them in premiering the piece at our concerts alongside guest artists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter 2026 Composer in Residence: Jeffrey Bowen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeffrey Bowen is a composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music, whose works have been performed by Pascal Gallois, Maja Cerar, Beta Collide, Ensemble DissonArt, and the Luminosity Orchestra, among other ensembles. He was awarded First Prize in the 30th International Composition Competition \u201cCitt\u00e0 di Barletta,\u201d and has presented work at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, the Darmstadt Courses for New Music, the International Computer Music Conference, and as a resident artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts.
He is currently based in Seattle, where he teaches music theory, composition, and guitar at Seattle University and is co-director of the Inverted Space Ensemble. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fall 2025 Composer in Residence: Tom Baker<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our current Composer in Residence is Tom Baker<\/strong>, Professor of Composition, Theory, and Electronic Music at Cornish College of the Arts. Tom has written a new work for the BC Guitar Ensemble titled Shendos 15: String Fields<\/em>, which will be premiered on Wednesday, December 10 in Carlson Theatre as part of the International Guitar Series, featuring guest artist Wu Fei.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
