Job Summary:
\nThe 4th Grade Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the head coach with practices and games during the season. This role supports the athletic and personal development of student-athletes by promoting teamwork, skill-building, and sportsmanship in a positive and inclusive environment. The 4th Grade Basketball Assistant Coach collaborates closely with the head coach to align with school values and ensure a safe, engaging experience for all participants.<\/p>\n
Specific Responsibilities:
\n\u2022\tSupports the head coach with all basketball practices for fourth grade, assisting with teaching age-appropriate basketball fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
\n\u2022\tAssists the head coach with all scheduled games, including travel to away games, while positively representing St. Thomas School.
\n\u2022\tPromotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and individual skill development, and supports player growth aligned with program expectations and core competencies.
\n\u2022\tEnsures the safety, supervision, and well-being of all student-athletes.
\n\u2022\tPartners with the head coach to support program goals and team culture.
\n\u2022\tHelps with equipment, as well as court set up and cleanup for practices and games.
\n\u2022\tUpholds and models the mission, values, and strategic priorities of STS.
\n\u2022\tDemonstrates respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
\n\u2022\tMaintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with discretion.
\n\u2022\tAdheres to school policies and procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and After-School Programs.<\/p>\n
Requirements and Qualifications:
\n\u2022\tHigh school diploma or equivalent; coursework in education, coaching, or a related field preferred.
\n\u2022\t1+ years of experience coaching basketball, or equivalent playing experience, preferably with elementary\u2013age students.
\n\u2022\tKnowledge of youth athletic development, including age-appropriate skill building and sportsmanship.
\n\u2022\tDemonstrated ability to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
\n\u2022\tAbility to actively supervise student-athletes both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
\n\u2022\tPhysical ability to meet the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds and engaging in activities such as bending, crouching, or sitting on the ground.
\n\u2022\tReadiness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification, and maintain throughout employment
\n\u2022\tSuccessful completion of required background checks in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
\n\u2022\tDemonstrated cultural competency and ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
\n\u2022\tStrong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, flexible, and growth-oriented mindset.
\n\u2022\tProficiency with basic technology tools and a willingness to learn school-specific systems.
\n\u2022\tCommitment to the mission, values, and community of STS.<\/p>\n
