Position: Consensus Organizer for the Eastside’s Indian/South Asian Communities

Position Status: Contractor – Part Time

Reports to: Director of Cultural Connections

ABOUT EASTHUB

EastHUB is a non-profit 5013c community development organization with a mission to help reshape Bellevue and the Greater Eastside into a regional hub for arts and culture through the creation of an innovative, embedded infrastructure of cross-cultural gathering spaces. Our goal is to be a catalyst for this development through an inclusive partnership model that brings developers, municipal and regional governments, arts organizations, culture groups, businesses, and the Eastside’s diverse residents together to imagine and design new cultural gathering spaces. This partnership will capitalize on the opportunities the region’s tremendous growth presents to develop a shared, sustainable network of flexible, tech-forward arts and cultural spaces across the Eastside region: Offering the social and cross-cultural amenities and experiences our community needs.

About Consensus Organizing

Consensus Organizing is a method of community engagement that focuses on finding and developing areas of mutual self-interest between community stakeholders. It embodies and reflects EastHUB’s commitment to Anti-Racism, Diversity and Inclusion. Our goal through this process is to develop meaningful relationships and partnerships among community residents, and stakeholders, and external influences to facilitate positive and tangible community change. This process translates into creating access, providing educational opportunities, building a diverse audience, and providing strong logistical support and access to shared services.

POSITION ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EastHUB is seeking an individual with strong relationships within, and deep knowledge of, the Eastside’s Indian and South Asian communities to join our team as a Consensus Organizer. The principal function of this role is to start conversations and seed relationships between EastHUB and individuals and organizations within the targeted communities for the purpose of identifying and developing areas of mutual self-interest that contribute to the larger goal of developing a comprehensive ecosystem of active cross-cultural spaces.

Objectives & Deliverables

Identify members of the Indian/South Asian community who support Arts and Cultural activities in the Greater Seattle area
Identify arts and cultural organizations that work with Indian/South Asian communities
Send out surveys and collate data from community members and Arts and Cultural organizations
Solicit and attend one-on-one meetings with community and cultural leaders, facilitate meetings with relevant community and cultural organizations, plus attend appropriate community meetings to achieve Consensus Organizing goals
Provide consistent feedback to EastHUB with well documented contact reports including all relevant information, quotes, photos, and/or videos to assist with the creation of the findings report
Distribute and discuss EastHUB collateral material as appropriate
Be present at and lead consensus organized gatherings
Write a final report including contact information on all partners

Qualifications

An outgoing personality, enjoys meeting and engaging with new people
Experience as a cultural worker / activist / community organizer in the Eastside area preferred, but not required
Familiarity with and/or existing relationships within the Eastside’s South Asian community including service organizations, the arts community, or educational organizations.
Strong writing skills
Deadline, results, and detail-oriented
Excellent communications/listening skills
Relentless, Self-starter and driven
Team player, relaxed, fun and humorous

Compensation

$45/Hour

Hours – Part Time, 10-12 Hours/week

It is anticipated that the Organizer will be engaged for approximately 10-12 hours per week, for a period of up to 6 months. Most of the work can be done remotely initially, with face-to-face meetings taking place as conditions allow. Hours are flexible.
