Description<\/strong><\/td>In partnership with the Black Student Union affinity groups within the Bellevue College campus community will be hosting weekly educational and cultural events. This is in efforts to demonstrate intersectionality and the importance of unity as we continue to explore tactics in combating anti-blackness!

For the last week of Black History Month, we will explore The Model Minority Myth \u2013 There are common stereotypes that are used to describe Asian and Black people in the United States serving as direct contrast to one another. These stereotypes work as racial wedge politics that divides solidarity amongst people of color and perpetuate anti-blackness.

In this talk with Dr. Kiona (Ph.D., M.S., M.A.) and Takeru\u00a0\u201cTK\u201d Nagayoshi\u00a0(Massachusetts 2020 Teacher of the Year) students will have the opportunity to learn about the origin of the term \u201cModel Minority\u201d, why it is a myth, and the reasons why it should never be used against Asian or any other minority.
