We sat down with our backs touching \u2013<\/p>\n

each heavy breath of mine \u2013 pressing<\/p>\n

gently against your cool skin. The faded<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

rays of sunlight mixed with the dust of<\/p>\n

my room \u2013 floating aimlessly through<\/p>\n

the space \u2013 surrounding our two beings.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We read aloud \u2013 or more so, you read \u2013<\/p>\n

your gentle voice casting the multitude<\/p>\n

of thoughts, opinions, and gestures into<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the air \u2013 with each occasional breath \u2013<\/p>\n

or pause in your soft speech.\u00a0 I listened \u2013<\/p>\n

digesting the words until my belly filled<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

with the sweet sensation of imparted<\/p>\n

wisdom \u2013 those tales of my past \u2013 the<\/p>\n

stories of you. You breathed \u2013 out life \u2013<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

from the curved lips of your mouth \u2013<\/p>\n

tantalizing me with its graceful form.<\/p>\n

I gazed off toward the end of the room \u2013<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

watching the tiny spurts of water drip<\/p>\n

quickly from the overflowing gutter.<\/p>\n

I breathed \u2013 sighing deeply until your<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

words meshed like thick filtered cream \u2013<\/p>\n

spinning me softly into a reverie.\u00a0 Lifting<\/p>\n

me upward with the drone of your voice –<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the savory murmurings carrying me away,<\/p>\n

kidnapping me from the constant thoughts –<\/p>\n

the uninterrupted rhythm of lost time and<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

unfulfilled desires \u2013 pulsing through me \u2013<\/p>\n

never ending.\u00a0 I suck back in \u2013 inhaling the<\/p>\n

strong fragrance of your perfume \u2013 dragging<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

me downward again \u2013 I glance at the opened<\/p>\n

door \u2013 the curious passerby is standing \u2013<\/p>\n

watching as you read my slow paced narrative \u2013<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and me, sitting like a child in your arms.<\/p>\n

You smile \u2013 the pursed lips stretched back<\/p>\n

to reveal a calm glimpse of happy \u2013 your tired<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

wrinkles exposing the years of my life \u2013<\/p>\n

wrapping the long robe around my trembling<\/p>\n

bones \u2013 we sit together \u2013 Mom and I.<\/p>\n
