Manley<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is the same<br \/>\nas with children who <em>can<\/em> see what their fingers touch:<br \/>\ntheir mouths drop open, eyebrows rise, blank eyes widen.<br \/>\nThey snatch their fingers from the monster&#8217;s mouth.<br \/>\nThey pull hands away at the feel of bushy eyebrows<br \/>\nand the clusters of human hairs on its head.<br \/>\nAnd then reach out again, smiling.<br \/>\nTheir small, stubby fingers stroke the burnished sides<br \/>\nof the wooden mask, slide down the great hooked nose,<br \/>\nslip into its mouth, lips pursed in that wide, round O.<br \/>\nThe children stand around Tsonokwa, talking and touching,<br \/>\nthe mask nearly hidden by a flutter of hands. <em>Huuuu!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Huuuu!<\/em> they say, mocking the great monster&#8217;s cries.<br \/>\nThey laugh. Tsonokwa lies face up, motionless<br \/>\nand perhaps dead. But the children are alive and smiling<br \/>\nand victory is theirs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By C. R.
