To the Editor Ana Palma-Gutierrez:
We, the Associated Student Government Judicial Board are writing this letter to the editor to clarify the January 3, 2012 Jibsheet article “ASG President Found Guilty of Violating By-Law 5.2.1.2) and to provide the students of Bellevue College with a fair, evenhanded, and accurate account of the hearing.
The Judicial Board is responsible for upholding the constitution and by-laws of the Associated Students of Bellevue College. When the Judicial Board receives complaints submitted by students, it is our responsibility to investigate the matter impartially and without bias. In the case, the Judicial Board submitted an official recommendation to the Executive Board of the ASG. It is solely the responsibility of the Executive Board to make the determination of implementing a probationary period. The Judicial Board’s role in this process is complete, but the issue is not concluded. The Judicial Board’s recommendation is still pending review from the Executive Board, and until the Executive Board has met, the ASG President is not on probation as the article states. We wish to provide the students with the accuracy they deserve as well as the due respect the ASG President deserves.
The Jibsheet was notified of the investigation in process because the Associated Student Government firmly believes in being transparent and accountable to the students of Bellevue College. The Constitution and By-Laws of the Associated Student Government compelled the Judicial Board to act due to student complaints and Board of Directors concerns. We have to our best abilities concluded our investigation, and our ruling is pending review by the Executive Board.
Respectfully,
The Judicial Board of the Associated Student Government
